Most traders stare at candles.
Meanwhile, behind those candles, some of the biggest market makers on earth are processing insane amounts of flow, liquidity, executions and information.
And some of the stories around them are absolutely wild. 👇
🔥 CITADEL SECURITIES
In 2017, the SEC ordered Citadel Securities to pay $22.6 MILLION over execution practices involving two algorithms.
Those algorithms affected millions of retail orders.
At the time, Citadel was handling roughly 35% of U.S. retail equity volume.
Think about that for a second.
A small piece of execution logic can influence an enormous river of market flow.
🔥 JANE STREET
In 2025, Indian regulator SEBI accused the Jane Street group of manipulating major Indian indices through strategies linked to options trading.
The provisional alleged unlawful gains?
₹48.4 BILLION.
Around ₹4,843 crore.
Important: these were interim regulatory findings, not a final conviction.
But the scale is still staggering.
🔥 VIRTU FINANCIAL
The SEC alleged that sensitive institutional trading information could be accessed internally using broadly shared generic credentials.
That information included:
• Client identity
• Instrument
• Buy / Sell side
• Price
• Size
The SEC did NOT allege actual front-running.
But this perfectly illustrates something traders often forget:
Information itself is part of market structure.
🔥 SUSQUEHANNA / SIG
In 2026, Susquehanna sued up to 100 unidentified traders.
Its allegation?
Those traders may have received advance information about a Chinese regulatory action and allegedly made more than $100 MILLION using put options.
Susquehanna said it lost around $71.4M on the other side.
Yes.
Even giants can become liquidity. 😈
🔥 IMC TRADING
FINRA said IMC experienced reporting problems involving...
28.7 BILLION ORDER EVENTS.
Not million.
BILLION.
Approximately:
• 21.8B inaccurate events
• 6.9B late events
Mostly linked to software, technology and connectivity issues.
That gives you an idea of the sheer scale of modern electronic markets.
And THIS is exactly why watching price alone tells only a tiny fraction of the story.
Behind price there is:
⚡ Latency
⚡ Internalization
⚡ Order routing
⚡ Liquidity replenishment
⚡ Cancellations
⚡ Aggressive execution
⚡ Passive absorption
⚡ Options positioning
⚡ Algorithmic execution
⚡ Billions of electronic events
Price is the footprint.
Microstructure is the animal.
And this is exactly the rabbit hole I’m diving into with:

The goal is NOT to build another stupid “AI predicts the market” toy.
The goal is to make AI watch:
DOM
Tape
Footprint
Liquidity
Aggression
Absorption
Replenishment
Sweeps
Traps
Market response
...all at the same time.
And detect when something stops making sense.
Heavy selling...
but price refuses to fall?
Bid keeps rebuilding?
CVD collapses...
but price holds?
Three downside sweeps fail?
That contradiction is where things become VERY interesting.
