How to innovate, bring utility to web 3 in the real world, and make dApp staking fun.

This post follows the space I had yesterday about it.

 1/ Who is building Astar Farm?

It’s the first game of Astar Games @AstarGamesInc.

They are dedicated to developing games on top of Astar. Themselves a subsidiary of Crypto Games, led by @kotaozawa.

On X, you can follow the CTO @stand_english who regularly shares his journey (in Japanese).

The general idea is simple.

Users play a game to grow crops. Similarly as we can do in the game Animal Crossing

In reality, Users are staking ASTR, the native token of the Astar Network, to participate in virtual farming activities.

Let's view it from two different angles: gaming and DeFi.

2/ What is Astar Farm - gaming aspect

Users go to a virtual farm where they can purchase crops and grow them. After a while, they’d harvest and be able to sell their harvested Astar.

 Let’s see how it works:That's a cycle.

Plant seeds: stake ASTR:

Watch your crops grow: lock for a period.

Harvest the crop: the end of the lock period, and decide: re-stake or sell?

Sell crops: sell it agains ASTR tokens.

Some gaming and randomness features:

- The yield for each species is random between one and five.

- The number of crops is random, with results ranging from 1 to 5 (odds are equal).

Risk of Crop Loss: there is a chance of crops being eaten by insects.

What is Astar Farm - DeFi aspect

It’s a gamified experience for dApp staking.

Instead of using the Portal and locking up funds, users go to the game.

Rewards are coming out of the dApp staking rewards .

Callbee collaboration

Calbee let you turn the potatoes harvested in the game into actual potato chips.

The game world and the real world are connected.

Is that a way to make blockchain part of our daily lives and reach mass adoption?

Respect for the innovative approach.

As the founder of Astar @WatanabeSota said:

5/ Recent news - Gacha

Astar farm keeps its cultural Japanese connection with the added gacha feature.

"Gacha" comes from "gachapon," which are Japanese vending machines for capsule toys.

6/  Strategic & insights takeaway points

- They do a merger between real-world and crypto assets with Calbee, the potato chips.

Is merging real words and crypto an answer for mass adoption and unlocking new growth?

While still rare, these initiatives are increasingly occurring, like recently with Solana.

- They make crypto "fun" by turning the "boring" dApp staking into a game.

Is making boring crypto stuff another secret to mass adoption?
